Canon PC 170
The Canon PC-170 was the first "personal copier" I ever bought. I needed something to duplicate invoices and receipts but didnt need the large scale copiers that seem to dominate the market.
The PC-170 seemed ideal. Its small and reasonably light at something like 19 pounds. It folds up to resemble a briefcase so it can be portable if you dont mind the weight. It means though I can store it away in my office at home and just get it out a couple of times a month when I do my accounting. Space is an issue for me so its nice to have something small that I can put away when I dont need it.
I have a Canon printer too, which is why I went for another Canon product. They are completely reliable, easy to maintain and cheap to run. The Canon instant on function is a joy to work with. Even though 10 seconds isnt a long time, over a couple of years it can be, so saving at least that much time in a day means a lot.
Once its working the PC-170 is very easy to use. To get it up and running you just need to unpack it and connect it up. Once plugged in, there is no warm up time, so its ready a second or two later. Canon has a clever kind of ink that doesnt need to be heated up like others, which is why its always ready.
The ink cartridges themselves are an all in one. That means I only have to change a single item to keep the copier going forever. The drum and fuser are in with the toner, which makes it very easy to maintain. At $40 each for 4000 pages, that lasts me a good few months.
You cant write about a copier without mentioning whether its any good or not. The PC-170 is good. I only mainly copy receipts and invoices but occasionally Ill copy something useful in a newspaper or magazine, like a recipe or a how-to guide. The copier handles them well, even the photographs. Even though the copier is black and white, the photos still come out well. They are nicely detailed and dont really look like old fashioned black and white, they are more crisp and exact.
The PC-170 is a great little copier. Small enough to be convenient in confined spaces, but good enough to be able to produce what you need.

Canon Copier ImageClass D320
The Canon Copier ImageClass D320 is a desktop laser printer copier aimed at the home market. Small businesses may also benefit from it as long as their duty cycle wasn’t too demanding.
Setup of the D320 is about as quick and easy as it gets. Simply unpack it, insert the toner, connect it and off you go. It has USB2 so attaching it to a computer is just a matter of plugging it in and loading the drivers. The chassis itself is a compact one. It leans to the right as the platen and paper tray both extend past the body to cope with legal sized media.
Copy and print quality is good enough for business use. The 1200 x 600 dpi resolution produces text that is clean, crisp and precise. Images and photographs are also well presented, with sharp edges, fine detail and even coverage. Text is well printed, finely edged and evenly toned. At 15 pages per minute there isn’t much waiting around for your copies either.
The paper tray can cope with 250 sheets of paper and the output tray around 15. The paper has a tendency to curl if left too long on the output so it’s best to remove it at it comes out. Especially if you’re planning on printing or copying double sided.
Replacement toner will set you back around $33 and will print around 3500 pages. It is a single cartridge system which needs no drum or developer unit for it to work. So not only is it good value for money, it’s easy to manage too. This setup is typical of Canon printers and copiers right now. It reduces running costs, manufacturing costs and waste. The added bonus is that you only need to change one consumable.
The D320 is a decent printer and copier that will serve you well if you’re a light user. It’s efficient, easy to set up, and use. The print quality is good, as is copy quality. Both functions are well featured and produce results that are more than fit for purpose.

- Remove the label from the top of cartridge
- Using the drill tool, widen the refill holes for each color.
- Prepare an area for refilling.

- Attach the needle to syringe and load syringe with 6ml of ink (For color cartridges) position for the 41, 51, 52 cartridges or 20ml for the black 40 and 50 cartridges.
- Insert needle into correct color ink hole (that you created in the vent). Penetrate the sponge inside and be sure the needle does not reach the bottom of cartridge. If the needle penetrates to the bottom of the cartridge, the cartridge will leak and is not salvageable.
- SLOWLY inject the ink into the cartridge. Stop if the ink begins to well up from the fill hole. Reverse the process and pull about 1ml of ink if it has spilled out the top of the cartridge.
- Clean off top of cartridge, un-tape the next fill hole and tape over the one just filled. This is so you don’t accidentally contamination other colors.
- Repeat steps 5, 6, 7, 8 until all colors have been injected.
- Clean off the top of the cartridge. Place tape over the top of the cartridge so it covers every hole.
- Use a pin and put a small hole (vent hole) through the tape for each hole on the top of the cartridge. This is important, don’t skip this step. The cartridge must be vented to atmosphere or it will not work.
- Reinstall the cartidge.

and a small mirror to inspect the contacts. Next thing to open the
cover and when the head comes to the center, pull out the power cord.
Then remove all of the ink cars and then the printhead and clean the
contacts on the back of the head and those in the back of the carriage.
The only other thing to do is to take that ink cart back to Staples and see if they have a Canon printer demo there and test the ink cart, or get a new one.

showing Error 5100 Pixma MP970
Pixma MP970 that keeps showing Error 5100 have tried resetting with
guide from a i550 and hjc4500 but I still have same problem I can only
print half of a DVD but I can print all of any pages that I want to Any suggestion to this problem is greatly appreciate.
the 5100 is the carriage error and can be caused by 4 different sensors. First off the "Timing Strip" that passes through the back of the Carriage Assembly can be contaminated with ink spots and this needs to be cleaned. Open the cover and use your flashlight to examine the timing strip as much as you can see. You really don't have much access to this strip unless you remove the covers,..and doing that is considerable work. The other items that can cause this error are the sensor inside the carriage unit, the drive motor for the carriage asm, and of course the main logic card. However, 99.6% of the time it is the Timing strip which is easitly contaminated with splattered ink.
I have created Repair Manuals that can teach you how to disassemble and repair any Canon Printer but I can advertize or sell this product from this web site. If you want more information you will have to click on my USER ID and send me an email and I will provide more information. I don't have a Manual for the MP960 since I have not had one to repair, but I have all other cirtical information including the Canon Service Manual for the MP960.

Canon iP4680 Error Codes
The error code is standard for many of the late model MPxxx printers.
The B200 error is "Printhead Temperature exceeded", What this means that
while you were printing some document, either one or more of the
printhead ink wells ran out of ink and the printing continued. Printhing
without ink in the wells will OVERHEAT THE PRINTHEAD NOZZLES and can
potentially burn the out. The printer has a built in temperature sensor
to detect the ambient temperature and to monitor the temperature of the
head. This data is always collected and monitored and saved in the
EEprom data and the Service Test print data.
If the error will not go away once you have unplugged the priner for at least 5 minutes, then there is the possibility that you have already burnt out the head. Remove the printhead and use a 5x magnification glass to look VERY CLOSE at all of the nozzles to see if you can detect any possible burnt out nozzle. It many come down to need a new printhead.
