Konica Minolta Di251
The Konica Minolta Di2510 is a different type of machine to those reviewed before. This is a fully feature multifunction that is completely scalable and configurable to every possible need. With a brand name associated with quality on other imaging equipment, including cameras it’s easy to see why Konica equipment is so popular.
The Di2510 is a fully featured, fully functional office machine, it can print, copy scan and fax with the best of the competition. As far as mono machines go, it offers everything you’re likely to need and the ability to add things if your priorities change.
The control panel is straightforward, being at the front angled towards the user rather than sitting flat on the top. The panel has few keys, which is unusual for a multifunction. It does make it easy to navigate, and prevents confusion when using more than one function though. It all stems from the fact that there is one set of hardware that controls all functions, rather than four different systems that work together. This save space, weight and cost with no discernable downside.
Printing and copying is of good quality. Reproduction during testing was accurate and sharp. Edge details were crisp with no bleeding, even on the largest text. Image reproduction was also good with no banding on black and white images, and accurate color reproduction on full color images.
Print speed is respectable at a rate of 25 pages per minute for monochrome printing. Copying is the same and offers all the usual features you would expect including the ability to copy up to 99-1, 400% magnification, copy from memory or from the optional hard drive.
The scanner is decent and can be used from in front of the machine or from the desktop. The scan speed is a respectable 70 pages per minute and scan quality is pretty good. There is also the option to scan from email, to hard drive, to FTP or straight on to the internet.
Toners are easy to manage, with replacements lasting an average of 14000 pages before they need replacing. The drum is good for 80000, so maintenance and running costs are quite respectable.
Connecting and configuring the Di2510 is pretty easy really. Just plug it in and off you go. A router will pick it up in not time and will add it to a workgroup automatically. It has both USB and Ethernet connections, with the network option being the preference for most uses. The included software package has drivers and soft copies of the user manual which is easier to read than the hard copy.
This is a solid device for most smaller workgroups. The cost of ownership is low enough to make it an attractive proposition without skimping on features. The running costs are also attractively low, with toners costing less than competitors, and lasting significantly longer.
